Research Activities
- Andrea Malizia is an Associate Professor in Nuclear Measurements and Instrumentation (ING / IND-20) at the Department of Biomedicine and Prevention of the University of Rome Tor Vergata. The scientific activity of Andrea Malizia is concentrated on the development of experimental apparatus and numerical simulation methods aimed at the distribution of contaminated dust, ionizing radiation, and toxic agents. The initial application of these techniques was the radio safety of fusion plants while the current interest is aimed at situations of accidental or deliberate radio release (safety in the CBRN -Chemical, Radiological and Nuclear logical bioactivity), environmental, and risk in the healthcare environment. In summary, over the years, Prof. Malizia’s research activity has been systematically converging towards modeling, design, development, and optimization of methods for measuring the dynamics of CBRN and distribution contaminants and towards the implementation of sensor fusion techniques. and big data analytics for the reduction of risks to people exposed to radiological/nuclear accidents. The technical and scientific collaborations with public, military, and private bodies are as varied as the funding for the research received. He was appointed by the National Authority in 2020 as a national representative at the IAEA for the technical table set up for the establishment of a Master’s in EPR-RN. Supervisor and co-supervisor of numerous Master’s and Bachelor’s Degree Theses at the Faculty of Medicine and Surgery and Engineering. Member of the Academic Board of the Ph.D. in Industrial Engineering and of the Specialization Schools of Hygiene and Prevention and of Medical Physics. Coordinator of the 1st Level Master in Protection from CBRNe events (Basic Course) and Coordinator of the 2nd Level Master in Protection from CBRNe events (Advanced Course). Andrea Malizia is the author and guest editor of books on CBRN risk, he is the winner of 2 international awards for research (Sapio Award and OPCW-The Hague Award) and 1 national (City and Safety Award). As can be deduced from the SCOPUS data, Andrea Malizia is the author of over 179 scientific publications indexed on SCOPUS, with an h-index equal to 21.
